SUBLUXATIONS

What is a subluxation?
Subluxation occurs when spinal bones move out of their normal position, and apply pressure to the spinal cord & nerves. Subluxation can cause a multitude of health concerns & mechanical stress in the spine.

Subluxations accelerate the deterioration & degeneration of the surrounding tissues, causing dis-ease in the body & affecting overall wellness. Chiropractors are the only healthcare professionals trained to locate & remove a vertebral subluxation.

DEGENERATION

Phases of Degeneration

Near Normal

This is a side x-ray view of the neck. This x-ray represents a "near normal" spine. Please note the normal curvature in the spine, the white bones, & the grey disc spaces. Compare this spine with the ones below.

Phase 1 Degeneration

In the first of the four phases of subluxation degeneration, the normal curve of the spine begins to change. More often than not, there is no pain associated with this phase. Without the proper chiropractic care, the spine will continue to misalign, which leads into phase two of degeneration. Phase 1 degeneration represents subluxations that have been present for up to 10 years!

Phase 2 Degeneration

Phase 2 represents complete loss of the normal curve & continued narrowing of the grey disc spaces. You might also notice osteophytes, or bone spurs, forming in the neck. Range of motion may be limited and patients usually feel stiffness. Chiropractic care can help bring back near-normal functions, but the damage done to the discs and bones may be irreversible. Phase 2 degeneration represents subluxations that have been present for up to 20 years!

Phase 3 Degeneration

Without the proper care in phase 2, spinal fusion will begin.  As degeneration worsens & fusion begins, disc damage & abnormal curves can become permanent during this phase. The progression of spinal degeneration can be slowed or stopped with proper chiropractic care.  Phase 3 degeneration represents subluxations that have been present for up to 30 years!

Phase 4 Degeneration

In phase 4 of subluxation degeneration, quality and longevity of life can be decreased. Bone and neurological damage are permanent at this point, as the bones become fully fused. Phase 4 degeneration represents subluxations that have been present for up to 40+ years!

However, not all hope is lost after the 4th phase of subluxation degeneration. By participating in proper care, patients can delay the necessity for medication or surgery, while regaining better function of the nervous system. With regular chiropractic care, patients can start enjoying life again.
